Technology, Social Media, And Education - 890 Words

The three most significant new developments in society during my lifetime thus far would be: technology, social media, and education. For my father, the three most significant new developments in society throughout his lifetime would be the Soviet/Afghan War, migration, and technology. In the past decade, technology has revolutionized the way humans in society today think, speak, work and communicate. With the rapid progression of technology, the world has become a smaller place; keeping in touch with one another is easier than ever—in just a click of a button people are able to access anything on the internet. For example, cellphones in particular have become a necessity to humans; over 70% of the world’s population own a cellphone. In the present day, cellphones have caused a cultural shift. While the independent variable in this scenario—cellphones are perceived as a great resource in people’s day to day lives, they have also become a great distraction. The constant use of cellphones has caused humans to have less personal interaction which has resulted in a decrease of interpersonal skills. The internet has easily allowed us to â€Å"google† information we wish to know, however, when trying to differentiate between facts, non sense and opinions, it is difficult. â€Å"When is a fact a fact? If you are a postmodernist, the answer is clear: never† (Andrew J. Cherlin, 79). Statistics can be manipulated in favor of the person producing the fact.
